Some people have that area of the brain more developed. Different areas control the development of different things. One part might control your artistic ability, while another controls your mathematical skills. Generally one isn’t good at everything. The brain probably specializes in a specific area.
Ex:
Math people can’t dance/play sports/paint that well.
Football Jocks or Dancers or Artists can’t do math that well.
EDIT: (NOT THAT THE ABOVE IS ALWAYS THE CASE. Those are just hypothetical examples).

well some people are awesome but there are also people who have strengths in other areas like being good at art (vs. stick figures) or writing. everyone’s just different i guess…if you’re not great at math chances are you’re better than someone who is at something else

since being good at math involves really understanding the basics and building on them, those who do this are good at math and little by little they start to like it more because you naturally like what you’re good at. Those who don’t put in enough effort early on aren’t good at it and little by little tend to dislike it since you naturally dislike what gives you problems. Most people tend to fall into one of these two categories. Remember math depends VERY heavily on building on what comes early on.

Math is extremely dependent on psychology. If you love math and see it as something that is fun, you will do well. If you think it is hard and you let it bother you, you will not do well. Even for people like me who love math and are good at it, there are days when I’m not feeling good about it and as a result I can’t seem to get through it. But the next day I might have a better mood and a better attitude towards it, and then I handle it easily. Self-confidence is the most important thing, and it shouldn’t be underestimated.

Personally I believe almost anyone can do most math. It’s a matter of having someone show you the steps, one by one and then following the pattern. I believe that this holds through all math that can be taken at the community college level. Some of the upper level math courses at a university require more abstract thought, but even then much of it can be taught. The trouble is people who are not ‘good’ in math, tend to avoid it unless they absolutely HAVE to take it. And oftentimes, classes can go fast. If you are taking classes, talk to a counselor and see if there is a tutoring center available. Many times you can get free help in there and perhaps a recommendation for private tutoring if you are looking for that. Most private tutors charge about $25 an hour, although I can say that rate varies tremendously. I’ve tutored for many years now, both privately and for the college.
Good luck.
