What are some tricks to figure math problems quickly?
Math Help
I recently watched a show with a math genius on it. He claimed to be able to teach children ways to figure large math problems with no pen or paper. Does anyone know any of these types of tricks?

I saw a tv special about that one time. This kid no older than 13, could multiply, divide, add, and subtract HUGE numbers in less than 10 seconds. The way they taught him to do this (I think it was in China?) was by training him to use the abacus for many years. He got so good at it, that he could visualize moving the parts of the abacus in his mind so he didn’t need it anymore. It was really cool! Sorry I don’t have any useful tips for you though….

I have a book, “Math Magic” by Scott Flansburg, if you’re looking for how to do large number crunching by hand.
But from my standpoint as a former math contest participant and having graduated from college in math, I found that sort of stuff totally useless. Use your calculator.

I know this one:
How to cube any number that ends with 5
e.g. 15×15
1×2(the following number)=2
5×5=25
therefore 15×15=225
another e.g.
25×25
2×3=6
5×5=25
therefore 25×25=625
another e.g.
85×85
8×9=72
5×5=25
therefore 85×85=7225
