Math Help


I answer a lot of math questions, so I like to be able to type things like x² or √x rather than the more common x^2 and sqrt(x). I find that it makes my answer MUCH more readable. Unfortunately, I have trouble locating/using non-unicode characters. I tried getting some from the Symbols font using Windows charmap, but they pasted in wrong. Symbols I’d like to have (and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen…)

The “such that” symbol as I was taught it is the “element of” symbol backwards.

I am in the IB program in Commack High School. I opted to take the hardest math in my school which is Math HL. I wanted to to know if this is the hardest math in the United States and if it looks good for colleges like Cornell University. IB so far is a lot of work. But, a lot of people say its not worth it and colleges dont look at it. Is this true?

I really want to be a photographer , but some people say that you need tons of math , and I am not that great with math . Would a photography school want you , if you have a C average in your math classes, but I have A’s and B’s in all of my other classes, and some of them are advanced .So my question is , if you are terrible at math , could you make it as a photographer ?

I need to go back and relearn a lot of the math I used to know and I think I should start at the beginning(algebra). I used to be able to do physics and calc in high school but that was in 80-84 and I forgot most of it.

I need a lot of practice problems to sharpen my skills along the way.

I’ve used differentiated instruction in my math classroom before. However, I feel like I still have a lot to learn. How often do you differentiate instruction in your classroom? Also, how do you chose or create the activities? Are there other adults who help you, or do you do this on your own? Do your students rotate through the same type of activities each time, or do the activities change each time? Finally, any helpful hints to make preparation for differentiated instruction quicker / easier? (It takes me so long to prepare lessons in this way!)
