Do you have to love math to become a engineer?

Math Help

I want to change my major to engineering, but I’m in my first semester of college.

I’m about to take intermediate algebra. My problem is that I don’t love math, but I could tolerate it.

Is that a problem?

I want to get into engineering because there will be a big science and engineer boom.

Love is a strong word. You do have to be good at math, you will use it every day in your engineering courses, and later in your work. You don’t necessarily have to love it, but you have to master it, or you simply won’t get the engineering degree. It may be possible to master it without liking it, but if you don’t like it at all you won’t like being an engineer and you probably should consider a different career.

Math certainly helps, but I think you really have to love to solve problems to love Engineering…Math just provides natural problems to solve.

There are too many engineers in the world today. There will not be a big science and engineering boom. You were lied to. You should only become an engineer for the passion of it and not for the money.
